Tourisme
Valpaços municipality is located on a plateau crossed by a dense river network, whose climate has extremely cold winters and very hot and dry summers, in Vila Real district.
The beauty of the countryside and the austerity of the climate ally themselves to its excellent gastronomy and to the kindness of its people in order to welcome all visitors.
Visitors are recommended to follow the walking tour along its hamlets to enjoy the natural resources of the territory.
The so-called Vias Augustas XVII stand out from among those tours, which make part of a larger route some 800-kilometre long crossing partially both Spanish and Portuguese territories and reaching 18 towns in both countries.
The fragment going through Valpaços municipality is 19-kilometre long; visitors will get through the civil parishes of Friões (Mosteiró de Cima e Barracão), Ervões (Sá), Vilarandelo (Vilarandelo), Valpaços (Lagoas) and Possacos (Possacos).
This route is plenty of History; it will make visitors return to the past, where Roman roads and bridges invite to forget the present time. The countryside is divided between agricultural fields and little woods reflecting its enormous fauna and flora biodiversity, where visitors can see and hear a great amount of species. There is a natural diversity of colours during the whole year, so that the incomparable natural scenery can be enjoyed at any time.
